Protecting Gold from Chlorine

When it comes to you and your jewelry, you can never be too careful in protecting it and keeping shiny and clean! But as the weather keeps getting warmer, more and more people will find themselves heading to the pool to cool off. And we do not blame you! We love to enjoy a nice day relaxing in the water with our friends and family!

However, do you ever hop into the pool with all of your jewelry still on? If you do, we highly, highly suggest that you take a moment to take it all off. This is even more important if you are wearing any gold.

Why? We have some information for you…

Seeing that the price of gold has risen over the last few years an extraordinary amount, you will not want to ruin any of your gold pieces by taking them into a chlorinated pool with you.

Because of this dramatic rise in the price of gold, the vast majority of people who have bought gold are buying 14 karat gold. However, most, if not the majority of 14 karat gold pieces only contain 60% of real, pure gold. On the other hand, 24 karat gold which is extremely expensive can usually be counted on as 100% pure gold.

So what does this mean for your jewelry? Since pure gold has no chemical reaction with chlorine, the 14 karat pieces you might be wearing are also filled with other elements, such as nickel, that does react poorly to chlorine.

If you do not take any of this jewelry off, not only will it become damaged and discolored, but the actual metal itself can become weakened. If it becomes bad enough, the metal can become destroyed from too much exposure to chlorine.

We want you to have fun this summer in the pool! But we also want you to protect your beautiful pieces of gold!
