How To Keep Your Diamonds Clean And Radiant

Diamonds are forever, right? While the answer is obviously “yes,” that doesn’t mean that they will continue to shine like brand new forever. Diamonds are precious gems, and should be handled accordingly if you want to keep them looking radiant and clean for all to see. Even if you wear them every day, only once in a while, or rarely, here are some important tips to keep in mind when caring for the integrity of your diamonds…

Clean them regularly, clean them carefully.

While you shouldn’t be cleaning your diamonds every day, you also don’t have to take them in to be professionally cleaned all the time. Instead, a quick and simple way to clean your diamonds is to gently clean them with the products in your own home! With a mixture of warm water and a gentle soap (mild dish soap is acceptable), soak the ring for a minute or so. Then, take the diamond out of the mixture, and gently scrub any dirt or debris away with a soft-bristled tooth brush. Make sure to clean the tooth brush after every wash to keep it from collecting dirt, and let the diamond air dry. Drying with paper towels or similar products get trapped or ripped on the stone, so it’s best to avoid drying with these items.

Bring them in for a professional cleaning once a year.

This is some of the best advice that we can give you when it comes to maintaining the integrity of your diamond. Since every day wear makes them subject to dirt and grime, giving your gem the deep clean it needs cannot be accomplished at home.

Take them off when you need to.

Even though wearing diamond rings and earrings is something we all do every day, they should be taken off when doing things like cooking and cleaning. Taking them off while cooking ensures that no excess food, jams, or oils get into the setting or on the stone, which is important. Likewise, you should always be taking off your jewelry while cleaning. Cleaning products have lots of chemicals that can, over time, diminish the quality of the stone and band, which could lead to long-lasting or even permanent damage.
